A new mountain retreat designed by Archermit has opened in Hongyan Village, Xuyong County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, China. The 693-square-meter lodging facility, completed in 2024, is strategically positioned against the majestic Danshan Mountain while facing expansive tea fields that characterize the region.

The project draws its inspiration from the local landscape, particularly the red rocks that give both Hongyan Village (Red Rock Village) and Danshan Mountain their distinctive names. Lead Architect Youcai Pan worked alongside Design Director Zhe Yang and Technical Director Renzhen Chen to create a structure that harmonizes with its natural surroundings.

The retreat incorporates a diverse range of materials that reflect both modern design principles and local character. These include straw paint, copper-aluminum composite panels, ultra-clear insulated glass, wood grain paint, small blue tiles, lava panels, micro-cement, and spruce wood panels. The careful selection of these materials creates a visual dialogue between the built environment and the dramatic landscape of red rocks and verdant tea plantations.

Construction was handled by Sichuan Chenghong Construction Investment Co., Ltd., with technical drawings provided by Chengdu Meixia Architectural Design Co., Ltd. The project was commissioned by the Xuyong Town People's Government in Xuyong County, reflecting local government support for sustainable tourism development in the region.

The design team, which included Rui Yang, Qinmei Hu, Yaxian Zhao, Yuanjun Gou, and Yuting Huang, focused on creating a retreat that would serve as a peaceful escape while respecting the cultural and environmental context of this scenic area of Sichuan Province. The facility represents a thoughtful approach to hospitality architecture in China's rural landscapes.
