A public discussion forum focusing on the future development of Steyr's historic old town will take place on October 1st at the Museum Arbeitswelt. The Architecture Culture Forum, scheduled to begin at 6 PM, will explore the delicate balance between preservation and renovation of the historic city center.

Steyr's old town is widely recognized as one of Austria's most significant historic city centers. The area features an exceptional collection of architectural styles spanning Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, which have earned international admiration and created a distinctive urban landscape that defines the city's character.

Despite representing an invaluable cultural treasure, the inner city faces considerable contemporary challenges. These include substantial renovation needs across numerous buildings, increasing vacancy rates in the main city square, a strained real estate market, and pressing questions about how to make the old town sustainable and resilient in the face of urban overheating and climate change impacts.

The event, titled "Architecture Culture Forum: Monument Future Steyr," is being organized through a collaboration between the Architecture Forum of Upper Austria, the Building Culture and Architectural Heritage Department at the Catholic Private University of Linz, polyloq Architecture, and the Future Region Steyr initiative. The discussion will specifically focus on the city square, which serves as the heart of Steyr.

Key topics for discussion will include strategies for revitalizing the city square and identifying effective tools to overcome the current crisis in the local real estate market. Participants will also examine how the old town can be positioned for future sustainability while maintaining the essential balance between historic preservation and necessary modernization.

The forum will feature an opening presentation by Gabriele Schnabel, who leads the Municipal Department of Building Construction and Old Town Preservation for the City of Steyr. The discussion will be moderated by Veronika Müller, ensuring a structured and productive dialogue among participants.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. Interested participants are encouraged to register in advance through the Future Region Steyr website at https://zukunftsregion-steyr.at/veranstaltung/baukulturstammtisch-denkmal-zukunft-steyr, where additional information about the forum is also available.
