The Korean Cultural Center in Hungary organized a special running event called 815RUN to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day at Budapest City Park on Thursday, August 15. This citizen-participation event welcomed participants of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of gender or nationality, creating an inclusive celebration of Korean history and culture.

Participants had the flexibility to choose between two different course options: a shorter 2-kilometer route consisting of one lap around the park, or a more challenging 4-kilometer course covering two laps. Throughout the event, runners carried Korean flags as they moved through the park, creating a striking visual display that symbolized unity and remembrance. The sight of participants from various backgrounds proudly displaying the Korean flag evoked memories of the historic Manse Movement, which once boldly proclaimed Korea's quest for independence.

The event transcended its role as a simple sporting activity, serving as a meaningful opportunity for reflection on the significance of liberation and the strengthening of diplomatic and cultural ties between Korea and Hungary. The Korean Cultural Center demonstrated its commitment to participant engagement by providing comprehensive event packages that included commemorative T-shirts, Korean flags, medals, and traditional Korean snacks for every runner who took part in the celebration.

The response from the Budapest community was overwhelmingly positive, with the event generating exceptional interest and enthusiasm among local residents and Korean expatriates alike. All 150 available registration spots were completely filled within just three days of the pre-registration period opening, demonstrating the strong appeal of Korean cultural events in Hungary. To add an extra element of excitement to the concluding festivities, organizers conducted a raffle drawing for various Korean cultural souvenirs, which further enhanced the celebratory atmosphere and provided participants with lasting mementos of their experience.

815RUN ultimately became a powerful and meaningful moment where citizens of both Korea and Hungary came together to share fundamental values of history, freedom, and unity. The event successfully bridged cultural boundaries and created lasting connections between the two nations, while honoring the historical significance of Korea's Liberation Day and its continued relevance in promoting international friendship and understanding.
