Local Artist Completes Oil Painting of Key Food Store, Work Already Sold Before Completion

Sayart / Sep 5, 2025

Local artist Steve Cosentino has finished painting his oil painting of the Key Food grocery store located on the southwest corner of Avenue A and Fourth Street. The artist completed the outdoor portion of his work today, capturing the iconic neighborhood landmark in vivid detail through his artistic interpretation.

Cosentino will now take the painting back to his home studio in Peter Cooper Village to add the finishing touches. These final details will include precise lettering and his personal signature, which require the controlled environment of his indoor workspace. The artist expects to complete these finishing touches within the next few days.

Once the painting is fully completed, it will need additional time to properly cure and dry completely. This drying process typically takes about one to two weeks for oil paintings of this size and complexity. Only after this curing period will the artwork be ready for its new owner to take possession.

Remarkably, the painting has already been purchased by a collector before its completion, demonstrating the strong local interest in Cosentino's work. The buyer's identity has not been disclosed, and the artist continues to attract attention for his neighborhood-focused artwork. Those interested in viewing more of Steve Cosentino's artistic portfolio can find additional examples of his work through his official channels.
