Villa VOL005 by Studio BO: A Contemporary Residence Blending into Marrakech's Ochre Landscape

Sayart / Oct 20, 2025

A striking new residential project has emerged on the edge of a golf course in Marrakech, Morocco, showcasing innovative contemporary architecture that harmoniously integrates with the local landscape. Villa VOL005, designed by Studio BO, stands as a testament to modern design sensibilities while respecting the traditional materiality and character of the region.

The villa occupies a substantial 1,400 square meter plot and encompasses 637 square meters of built area, completed in 2025. The architectural firm Studio BO, led by Omar Benmoussa and Nada Benkhoui, conceived the project as what they describe as "a silent presence, at once grounded and weightless, sensual and spiritual." This philosophical approach to design is evident throughout the structure's integration with its surroundings.

The design team drew significant inspiration from Marrakech's distinctive ochre landscape, incorporating the region's characteristic materiality and natural light qualities into the villa's aesthetic. The architects emphasized creating what they call "raw, unpretentious nobility" that reflects the authentic character of the Moroccan city. The project demonstrates a careful balance between contemporary architectural innovation and respect for local building traditions.

Construction and engineering responsibilities were handled by cap, while landscape architecture was managed by KLP, ensuring that both the built structure and surrounding outdoor spaces work in harmony. The collaborative approach extended to various specialists who contributed to different aspects of the project, from civil engineering to landscape design.

The villa's design philosophy centers on creating a structure that appears both firmly rooted in its environment while maintaining an sense of lightness and transparency. This dual quality reflects the architects' intention to create a building that feels both substantial and ethereal, responding to the unique qualities of light and landscape that characterize the Marrakech region.

Photography of the completed project was captured by Alessio Mei, whose images document how the villa successfully achieves its design goals of integration with the natural environment. The visual documentation shows how the building's form and materials create a dialogue with the surrounding golf course landscape and the broader context of Marrakech's architectural heritage.

The project represents Studio BO's continued exploration of contemporary Moroccan architecture, demonstrating how modern design can respectfully engage with traditional materials and local environmental conditions. Villa VOL005 serves as an example of thoughtful residential architecture that enhances rather than dominates its natural setting.
