Women on Display Festival Offers Creative Grants to Support Female Photographers in France

Sayart / Sep 17, 2025

The Women on Display festival is launching its fourth annual creative grant program, partnering with France's Ministry of Culture and the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs of Normandy (Drac Normandie) to support professional women photographers. The initiative aims to foster female talent in photography through two distinct funding opportunities available exclusively to professional women photographers who are residents of France.

The program offers two separate grant categories, each designed to support different types of photographic projects. The first opportunity is a residency program based in Houlgate, a coastal town in Normandy, which provides a 6,000-euro grant to selected photographers. Recipients of this grant will be expected to develop and execute a comprehensive photographic project focused specifically on the town of Houlgate, documenting its unique character, culture, and community.

The second grant opportunity, titled "The Climate in Images," offers a more substantial 10,000-euro funding package for documentary photography projects. This commission is specifically designed to support photographic work that explores and illuminates various aspects of climate change on an international scale. Importantly, projects funded under this grant must be conducted outside of France, encouraging photographers to examine global climate issues and their impacts on different communities and environments worldwide.

Interested applicants must adhere to strict submission guidelines and deadlines to be considered for either grant. All applications must be submitted according to the festival's specified procedures no later than October 12, 2025, with a hard deadline of 11:55 p.m. The organizers have emphasized that incomplete applications will not be reviewed or considered for funding, making it crucial for potential applicants to carefully follow all submission requirements and provide all requested documentation and materials.
