A.C.R.E. Atelier has successfully completed the renovation and expansion of Xinghe School in Longgang District, Shenzhen, China, creating a groundbreaking educational facility that addresses the challenges of high-density urban sites. The 29,960 square meter project, completed in 2024, represents a high-quality campus initiative prioritized by the Shenzhen Longgang District Construction Bureau and demonstrates innovative spatial paradigms that transform fundamental teaching models.

The project showcases systematic design strategies specifically developed to resolve spatial challenges inherent in high-density urban environments. Lead architect Yin Shun, working with a comprehensive team including Shi Qi, Lu Xinhe, Wei Jiyao, Liu Shen, Zhang Shiyuan, Zhao Chengyang, Xu Jiajia, and Pu Yunchen, collaborated closely with the China Academy of Building Research to ensure technical excellence throughout the design and construction process.

The renovation emphasizes sustainable architecture and environmental responsibility, achieving green and low-carbon campus goals through architectural innovation. The design team integrated advanced building technologies and materials, working with technical advisor Serge Ferrari to implement cutting-edge solutions. The project's environmental considerations reflect contemporary demands for sustainable educational infrastructure that minimizes ecological impact while maximizing functionality.

Photography by Right Angle Image, XIAO Xiao, and Jinhui Li captures the architectural transformation that balances modern design principles with practical educational needs. The visual documentation reveals how the architects successfully integrated new construction with existing structures, creating seamless transitions between renovated and expanded areas that serve the school's diverse academic programs.

The China Academy of Building Research team, including Yingchao Zhao, Yong Sun, Jinhui Li, Wanting Du, Jingyao Li, Jingming Zhang, Wanzheng Zou, and Jenny Liang, provided essential technical expertise for construction drawing design and implementation. Their collaboration ensured that innovative architectural concepts translated effectively into buildable solutions that meet stringent educational facility standards.

Construction management by the Shenzhen Longgang District Construction and Public Works Department facilitated smooth project delivery while maintaining quality standards throughout the building process. The department's dual role as both client and construction manager ensured clear communication channels and efficient decision-making processes that kept the project on schedule and within budget parameters.

The completed Xinghe campus demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can transform educational environments in dense urban contexts. The project establishes new benchmarks for school design in China, proving that renovation and expansion projects can achieve architectural excellence while addressing practical constraints of site limitations, budget considerations, and educational programming requirements.
