A striking new addition to Shenzhen's rapidly evolving skyline has been completed with the unveiling of the CITIC International Building, a 258-meter-tall office tower designed by renowned German firm gmp Architects (von Gerkan, Marg and Partners). Located in the bustling Futian District along the central Shennan Middle Road, this impressive structure represents one of the final major developments on available land in this prime commercial corridor.

The project encompasses a total area of 171,650 square meters and serves as the new headquarters for CITIC Group, an international corporation with extensive operations in finance, industry, and infrastructure sectors. The building's design successfully balances the demands of urban density with the creation of publicly accessible spaces and integrated open areas, setting a new standard for commercial architecture in the region.

The architectural team at gmp Architects, led by project leader Matthias Wiegelmann, brought together an international design team including Jan Peter Deml, Kohei Hayashi, Christa Hillebrand, Lasse Knoop, Manuel Molins Méndez, and Zhang Yingying. The detailed design phase involved an expanded team of specialists who worked closely with local project management personnel Nie Lei, Qin Wei, and Xu Ji to ensure the project met both international design standards and local construction requirements.

The tower's facade design was developed in collaboration with Schmidlin Facade Consultancy, while technical building services were provided by WSP Consulting. This collaborative approach between international and local expertise ensured that the building would not only meet aesthetic goals but also perform efficiently in Shenzhen's subtropical climate and demanding urban environment.

The CITIC International Building rises at a time when the Futian District is experiencing unprecedented densification, transforming from a mixed-use area into one of China's most important financial and business centers. The tower's design addresses this urban transformation by incorporating elements that serve both the building's primary commercial function and the broader community's needs for accessible public spaces.

Photography of the completed project by CreatAR Images showcases the building's sleek modern design and its integration into Shenzhen's dense urban fabric. The tower's architectural form reflects contemporary international office building standards while incorporating design elements that respond to local climate conditions and urban planning requirements.

As one of the last major developments along Shennan Middle Road, the CITIC International Building marks the completion of a significant phase in Futian District's urban development. The project demonstrates how modern commercial architecture can successfully combine high-density development with thoughtful urban design, creating spaces that serve both private enterprise and public benefit in one of China's most dynamic cities.
