A striking new residential development in Curitiba, Brazil, demonstrates how contemporary architecture can harmoniously blend with natural landscapes while creating cohesive community living spaces. The Casas Blanc 59 Residential Complex, designed by Nommo Arquitetos, represents a thoughtful approach to modern housing that prioritizes both individual privacy and collective identity.
The project features twenty residential units arranged in a continuous formation along a boulevard that carefully follows the natural contours of the existing terrain. Completed in 2025, the development spans 2,767 square meters and showcases a design philosophy that eliminates traditional side setbacks between units, creating a unified architectural gesture that reads as a single, cohesive structure rather than separate houses.
At the heart of the development lies a central garden that serves as both a preservation effort and a design focal point. The architects made the conscious decision to retain existing trees on the property while introducing new species to create a rich, varied green environment. This central landscape feature alternates between serving as a backdrop and becoming the main attraction, naturally filtering light, creating dynamic shadows, and establishing the rhythm of daily life for residents.
The architectural design emphasizes a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, particularly on the ground floor where social areas open generously to private backyards through expansive openings. This design strategy invites the exterior environment inside while maintaining a sense of protected, introspective living. The upper floors house bedrooms and suites that are common to all units, with some layouts featuring additional attics and uncovered terraces that provide extra living space and outdoor access.
Careful attention to orientation and fenestration enhances the project's environmental performance and livability. Strategic cuts in the building planes, large windows, and deliberate orientation toward the north, east, and west faces maximize natural lighting throughout the day and promote effective cross ventilation. The architects selected light and neutral tones, particularly white, to reflect and amplify natural light, which helps reveal the building's volumetric qualities while reinforcing the serene, timeless aesthetic of the overall composition.
The project represents more than just a collection of individual residences; it engages thoughtfully with the scale and character of the surrounding neighborhood. The architecture demonstrates a sensitive approach to contextual design, molding itself to complement existing surroundings while maintaining a uniform, timeless aesthetic discourse that remains open to the passage of time and changing community needs.
Lead architects Anderson Luís de Almeida and Felipe Guandelini worked with project team members Felipe Guandelini and Matheus Bandoch to realize the vision. The construction was completed by Construtora Riskalla, with structural engineering provided by AS Estruturas.
