Second Sculpture Symposium in Walhorn Explores 'Visions for Europe' Theme

Sayart / Sep 25, 2025

Artists from across Europe are gathering in Walhorn for the second sculpture symposium, working under the guiding theme "Visions for Europe." The event offers visitors unique insights into the artistic process, inviting the public to witness the creation of sculptures up close as they take shape from raw stone.

José Grommes, the tourism alderman for Lontzen, believes the theme is particularly fitting for the current times. "Because the first symposium was a complete success and the problems in Europe are still the same," Grommes explained. "That's why the theme 'Visions for Europe' fits like a glove. We have three quarries in Walhorn. Stone belongs to Walhorn like milk and water."

The symposium welcomes interested visitors until October 4th to watch the sculptures grow and develop while engaging in conversations with the participating artists. This interactive approach allows the community to become part of the creative process, fostering a deeper connection between art and audience.

Upon completion, the finished artworks will enhance Walhorn's sculpture trail, serving as a lasting symbol of art's unifying power in Europe. The sculptures will remain as permanent installations, contributing to the cultural landscape of the region and representing the collaborative spirit of European artistic expression.
